Ever-increasing rapes in India

Every 23 minutes a lady is raped in India, which is nightmare rather trauma for women. The major reason for increased cases of rape is callous attitude of Indian Government and insensitivity of the political leaders to ugly rape crimes. Sexual assaults are direct outcome of ignored priorities at national level, as Indian leaders focus on hegemonic designs and have lust for military power to the neglect of socio-economic factors behind the menace of rape. Modi\'s Government prefers military spending instead of improving social fabric of Indian society. Rape of a Pakistani Hindu minor girl was driven by general acrimony of Indians against Pakistan. Despite repeated demand of Pakistani High Commission in India, no action has been taken against the culprit Anand Gidde who also managed to get a bail before arrest.

Reportedly, the minor girl was raped by the Pune Police official on instance of RAW officials to humiliate the family of the victim after they refused to work for the RAW. The incident is an eye opener for Hindu/Sikh families aspiring to visit India for pilgrimage or other purposes. The overall situation in India is pathetic. Sunitha Krishnan uploaded an edited version of a gang rape video on YouTube in the first week of February this year. It was one of nine such videos that were being circulated as MMS clips. A rape survivor herself, Sunitha asked viewers to help identify the rapists in what she called ShameTheRapist-Campaign. On March 24, the CBI made the first breakthrough by arresting Bhubaneswar-based builder Subrat Sahu on charges of raping a woman and filming the act.

On Friday, Sunitha\'s lawyer told a Supreme Court bench that she received 90 new \"absolutely shocking\" online footages, mostly from rape victims, who want them to be probed by the CBI.

Justice Madan B. Lokur, who is heading a special bench in the court hearing social justice matters, has expressed shock. \"Is it possible to have a mechanism in place to deal with a situation like this? What is the cyber cell of the police in each state doing?\" he asked Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Singh who represented the Centre.\" From most videos, it is clear that this is not the offender\'s first rape. In another video, spanning 8.5 minutes, there is a gang rape of a girl by five culprits who are shown smiling, cracking jokes, recording the act and taking photos while they go about sexually assaulting the victim.
