Pro-freedom, pro-Pak demos rock IOK

In occupied Kashmir, Srinagar, Islamabad, Shopian and other areas were rocked by forceful anti-India, pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan demonstrations, today.

People waved Pakistani flags and raised full-throated slogans, Jeewey Jeewey Pakistan and We Want Freedom, during a big rally led by senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in Islamabad town. Pakistani’s National flags were seen fluttering on the rooftops of the houses in the town. Addressing the rally, Shabbir Shah said that no amount of force could stop the Kashmiri people from hoisting Pakistani flags in the territory.

Indian police arrested Shabbir Shah and other Hurriyet leaders on the occasion. The action triggered clashes between the protesters and the police. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, along with ten party leaders and activists courted arrest at Budshah Chowk in Srinagar, today, against the denying of political space to the pro-freedom leaders by the occupation authorities in the territory.

He led a mammoth procession from Nowhatta to Budshah Chowk amid slogans in favour of freedom and against India before his arrest. People took to the streets in Nowhatta, Lal Chowk and Ciivl Lines areas of Srinagar chanting pro-Pakistan, pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Indian troops resorted to heavy lathi-charge and excessive teargas shelling at various places to quell the demonstrations.

Hurriyet leaders including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Yasmeen Raja, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Muhammad Yousuf Mir and Muhammad Ramzan Khan led demonstrations in Shopian town to press the demand for fresh impartial probe into the rape and murder of two women by Indian men in uniform in Shopian on this day in 2009. Indian police arrested the All Parties Hurriyet Conference leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir, when he was leading a demonstration at Press Enclave in Srinagar against the Shopian tragedy.

The leaders and activists of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement also staged a separate protest at Press Colony in Srinagar. On the other hand, the puppet authorities continued to place the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, under house arrest in Srinagar while Indian police arrested Hurriyet leader, Zafar Akbar Butt, from his residence in Srinagar.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing a gathering at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar urged India to repeal draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act, from occupied Kashmir and stop suppressing the Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom at the dint of its military might. Complete shutdown was observed in Badgam district after a mysterious fire broke out at the shrine of Ayatollah Agha Syed Mehdi Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi (RA).
